Matthew 13:31-32

The parable of the mustard seed has a meaningful interpretation: that even the slightest bit of faith can yield fruitful results. And this is true, and good. Even the smallest bit of faith in Jesus can bring forth his peace, love, and grace.

But for the original listeners of this story, there was another level of meaning: trees have often represented kingdom rule, and birds, oppressed people. Jesus was saying that even though in the current age (to them) the kingdom of God might seem small, it is actually a life-sustaining tree of nourishment and shelter for oppressed people everywhere.

How can God nourish, sustain, and shelter you today?
