The Relief Bus
I worked with the Relief Bus for a few years while I was on staff at my church, and these people are the real deal. The bus is based in Elizabeth, NJ, and travels to regular spots in NYC and Newark, NJ, where it hands out soup and either cold or hot beverages (depending on the season) to homeless people living on the street.
The thing that's so awesome about The Relief Bus, though, is that because they go to the same places every week, they develop real relationships with the folks they serve. Eventually, they earn the trust of their community, and can connect them with the much needed services they need.
This is a worthy cause, and a great place to both volunteer and donate.
